The sign problem in the ε-regime of QCD
نویسنده
چکیده
QCD in the ε-regime at nonzero baryon chemical potential µ is reviewed. The focus is on aspects of the sign problem which are relevant for lattice QCD. It is discussed how spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and the sign problem are related through the spectrum of the Dirac operator. The strength of the sign problem is linked to the quark mass and the chemical potential. Specific implications for lattice QCD are discussed.

متن کاملRandom matrix analysis of the QCD sign problem ∗
The severity of the sign problem in lattice QCD at nonzero baryon density is measured by the average phase of the fermion determinant. Motivated by the equivalence of chiral random matrix theory and QCD to leading order in the epsilon regime, we compute the phase of the fermion determinant for general topology in random matrix theory as a function of the quark chemical potential and the quark m...
متن کاملOnset transition to cold nuclear matter from lattice QCD with heavy quarks.
Lattice QCD at finite density suffers from a severe sign problem, which has so far prohibited simulations of the cold and dense regime. Here we study the onset of nuclear matter employing a three-dimensional effective theory derived by combined strong coupling and hopping expansions, which is valid for heavy but dynamical quarks and has a mild sign problem only. Its numerical evaluations agree ...
متن کامل4 The Replica Method and Toda Lattice Equations for QCD 3
We consider the ǫ-regime of QCD in 3 dimensions. It is shown that the leading term of the effective partition function satisfies a set of Toda lattice equations, recursive in the number of flavors. Taking the replica limit of these Toda equations allows us to derive the microscopic spectral correlation functions for the QCD Dirac operator in 3 dimensions. For an even number of flavors we reprod...
